NYC UN "No Excuses" Concert Cancelled
Posted: Thu 9th September 2004 @ 15:01PM

Here is a statement from Ours' management regarding the show's postponement:

"Just wanted to pass along that tomorrow's free show in New York City is CANCELLED due to the weather forecast. They organizers are hoping to reschedule the event, but most likely we won't be able to be involved due to the upcoming recording schedule. I highly recommend that people stay tuned though and show their support for this cause when the event is rescheduled. The goal is to remind the delegates of the UN that they have not done made good on their promise to reduce Third-World debt, world poverty and hunger, or the spreading AIDS epidemic in Africa. The weather would have caused a hazard to the people involved, as well as reduced the crowd and thus the effect of what the organizers were hoping to achieve. Thanks for understanding and for the support."

Spiderman 2 Review Mentions Jimmy

Ours and Jimmy are mentioned in positive light in a review of the recent Spiderman 2 soundtrack.

"The only artists who seem to get Spider-Man are Australian garage rockers Jet and Ours vocalist Jimmy Gnecco, as both contribute songs that portray their hero in a more whimsical light, opting for memorable melodies and genuine emotion..."

Statement from Ours' Manager Concerning Recent Departures
Posted: Thu 24th June 2004 @ 18:05PM

"As you may have already heard, Pit and Anthony are no longer playing music with Ours. What needs to be understood is that this is not something to be sad about, but rather an opportunity to wish them well in their future endeavors. Since 1994, Jimmy has had many people come in to Ours to help him achieve his musical vision. Ours has always essentially been a solo project, and it's been Jimmy's great privilege to have so many great friends and even family members be a part of Ours. Distorted Lullabies was for the most part a solo record, and the band that toured as Ours were all close friends that Jimmy brought in to the circle to help him spread his music and fulfill his vision. But much like what Nine Inch Nails seems to be, Ours has been and will remain Jimmy's creative outlet for his musical ideas and visions. People will come and go, and the circle will continue to grow. When someone leaves it is almost never on bad terms, but rather to pursue something else in their lives. We all wish Anthony and Pit nothing but infinite success, happiness, and the fulfillment of all their dreams. But as long as Jimmy continues to make music, Ours will continue to exist and to grow. In case you are wondering, the song on the Spider-man 2 soundtrack was billed the way it was because it was not entirely Jimmy's project, and thus it was not called Ours. Hope that clears everything up. Thanks."

Liad (Ours' manager)

What we think...

Ours.net
Posted: Sun 7th December 2003 @ 04:33AM

As many of you know, http://Ours2.net has been the band's official website for quite sometime. But be on the look out for http://ours.net which will be properly launched soon. (right now it has tour dates, check it out). This site will have up-to-date news updates from the band and their management as well as content that will be updated more often. This is also good news for those of you who can't travel cross country to see the band and really want to support them by purchasing merch.

So in short, be on the look out for http://Ours.net's official launch.

What we think...
As far as I know, the ours2 site is a dreamworks website and ours.net will be the band's personal website.

I had emailed Liad, Ours' manager earlier this week and asked if they planned to make Ours t-shirts, posters and the like available for purchase via ours.net once it's launched. He replied with this message:

"Yes! It may not be available right at the launch,
which we hope to do within the next week or so. But
soon after. Everything will be available, from
t-shirts, to thermals, to hats, to hotpants. We're
working on getting posters and other stuff as well.

Jimmy To Headline Toronto Show
Posted: Fri 14th November 2003 @ 21:00PM

"Jimmy has signed on to headline my website's very first "AI Nights In Toronto!"

We're still looking for a local band in Canada to round out the bill, one artist is pending, one slot is empty and Ontario's Walkers Line is already slotted to open for Jimmy's solo acoustic show.

It's taking place Thursday, Dec 11th @ the Elmo in Toronto. If any of you can make it, you must go!! This is a huge opportunity for indie artists to get exposure, and Jimmy's been nothing but supportive.

Culture Room Review + Pics
Posted: Fri 7th November 2003 @ 20:25PM

The show was just absolutely amazing. It started off with a local talent Zack Ziskin. I got there a little earlier and was able to catch him during soundcheck, and he was awesome. I even got his CD. Adom and some other band I didnt catch the name of followed. Jimmy finally came on stage at about 11:00 I guess. The crowd suddenly became really quiet, except for these two *annoying* girls that wouldnt stop talking.

Jimmy opened up with God Only Wants You and I had been told from various people how good Jimmy was live, and I had downloaded lots of shows, but it was just something else... It sounded so pure and perfect, way above my expectations. Later he invited the crowd to come and sit on stage with him and throughout the show there was such a close connection between the fans and him, which is something rare and admirable. He talked to the crowd a number of times in between songs; he even took a cigarette of this girl next to me and he brought it up to his mouth and then dropped it and stepped on it and said "this could kill you". Pit was sitting on the stairs behind the whole time, and he was really into the music too, and he drummed on Chapter 2. Jimmy invited the lead singer of Adom to come on stage and sing the cover of the Cure's Lovesong, which was really good as well.

This is the complete setlist in order:

God Only Wants You
Here Is The Light
As I Wander
Bleed
I'm a Monster
Red Colored Stars
I Was In The Garden
Fallen Souls
I Ran Away To Tell The World
Meet Me In The Tower
Kill The Band
Places
Outside/Dancing Alone
Lovesong (cover featuring Conal on Vocals)
*He talked about why he doesn't do Jeff Buckley covers*
A song I dont know the name of (he said it was kind of a tribute to Jeff)
Medication (dedicated to Elliot Smith)
Chapter 2 (with Pit on drums)

If anyone knows the name of the song he dedicated to Jeff, let me know.

Overall, it was just an amazing experience, something I'll never forget, and the two year wait was finally paid off. I cant wait till I see them again.

LOS ANGELES -- DreamWorks SKG is close to a deal to sell its music unit to Vivendi Universal SA's (V) Universal Music Group for about $100 million, according to people familiar with the matter.

DreamWorks Records, part of the larger entertainment concern formed in 1994 by Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg, has never risen above boutique status despite a management team led by industry legend Mo Ostin and overseen by Mr. Geffen. People familiar with the matter say that DreamWorks has been increasingly eager to exit the business, which is beset by a global piracy problem that has steeply reduced music sales during the past three years.

DreamWorks' roster currently includes some steady performers, like country star Toby Keith, alternative rockers AFI, pop singer Nelly Furtado and Floetry. But it has been short on the breakout hits that industry observers once thought were a sure thing given the company's management pedigree. While DreamWorks Records hasn't developed into a successful business, Vivendi thinks it can turn it into a cash producer by stripping out its overhead.

Universal plans to fold DreamWorks Records into its Interscope Geffen A&M Unit, which is overseen by Jimmy Iovine.

Information About Dave's Departure and Future Plans
Posted: Sat 12th July 2003 @ 02:56AM

According to MikeM Ours performance at The Bowery Ballroom on 6/24/03 in New York City was Dave Milone's last live performance with the band. Also, Dave emailed MikeM to clear up some speculation and rumors about his departure so here is the email as well as some info MikeM posted on Fallen Souls (http://www.members.aol.com/mamast/newsgigs.html) his Ours fan site -

"Dave Milone kindly wrote in the following to clear up any speculation. "Yes, Jimmy and I and the others will remain friends. This did not happen because of a fight or any shit like that. It happened because I simply had enough of trying to just be a guitar player. The thing is that I'm not a guitar player or a singer or a drummer for that matter. I'm a guy with lots of ideas and I need to express them. If I don't I feel or sorts of shitty inside. I mean really bad. It makes me react and do things I don't truly want do. Also it makes me act badly towards others but mostly myself. So Jimmy and I both knew it was time I split before it did cause bad blood. Cause if I wasn't doing my end of it he'd of been pissed and if I stayed and worked only on his stuff I'd be pissed. So I'll figure out in the next couple of days what I'm doing in the future. I mean I do know that I'm gonna record a full length with the Mod (Teenbeaters/Elefant) when he returns from his 2 week tour with Elefant. I've been struggling with what songs to use for it cause I've got about 7 million songs or ideas but some suck and some just don't fit together so... I want it to be 10 songs that come from a somewhat similar place and say something." He also mentioned possibly filling in as touring guitarist for UK band the Libertines on Aug Us tour."

Dave Leaves Ours, New Record Being Recorded, Wanna Play Guitar For Ours?
Posted: Thu 10th July 2003 @ 21:34PM

From Official Ours Website, Ours2.net : "New Ours record! Ours has begun work on their 3rd Dreamworks record at Tarquin Studios in Connecticut. Unfortunately, guitarist Dave Milone is not joining the band on this recording in order to pursue different musical projects. Ours wishes Dave great happiness and success in all his future endeavors. Ours will begin auditioning for new guitar players soon. If you are interested in auditioning, please contact oursmanagement@yahoo.com to get information on submitting packages. Thanks"

What we think...
I think it's a bummer that Dave is leaving. I wish him luck for the future. I also think that it's quite cool how Ours likes to involve their fans. First, they put out an ad seeking guitar techs and now seeking a guitar player, to me that just seems like the band is really close to their fans and that's wonderful. Goodluck to any of you if you decide to audition =) - Hayley

Apparently at last night's acoustic show in Nashville Jimmy made a remark "You guys are just requesting the next album" when some fans yelled for him to play "Saint Down the Hall" and "Throw me to the Fire."

New B-Side?
Posted: Thu 7th November 2002 @ 06:50AM

According to Mike, Jimmy said they had recorded "I Was In The Garden" during the Precious session and it sounds "trippy and spacey" and may show up as a b-side. Also "Gravity" was recorded at the last minute but did not make the album in time. We are yet to receive confirmation.

Precious First Listen
Posted: Sat 2nd November 2002 @ 14:36PM

Mtv.com has given fans a chance to listen to the entire upcoming album.

This is what they have to say about the album.

Can something steeped in misery really be uplifting? For Jimmy Gnecco and the rest of OURS it can be. On Precious, their sophomore album, OURS puts on display a dark sense of honesty that is both tense and beautiful. The opening track, "Kill The Band," seems to wipe away all thoughts that this album will follow the path laid out on their debut album Distorted Lullabies. From the epic nature of the first single "Leaves" to the frantic refrain of "..nothing really matters" in "Disaster In A Halo" to their take on the Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale," OURS lures you into their dark and emotional world. As Gnecco puts it, "sometimes it's more important for me to make a sound than to write a pop song." Ironically the songs on Precious seem to accomplish both.

What we think...
I was kind of disappointed when I listened to the Studio version of Red Colored Stars. That was my favorite song on the album, but now I am not so sure of that anymore... I guess thats what you get by listening to the live recordings first. Oh well... - Fredo
